Description:

Seeking young performers in grades 9–12 for “Sunday in the Park”. See the details below. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. About the project: Inspired by the painting, A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte by Georges Seurat, Sunday in the Park with George, Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's stunning masterpiece, merges past and present into beautiful, poignant truths about life, love and the creation of art. Act 1 follows Seurat in the days leading up to the completion of his most famous painting, as he struggles to make meaningful art and maintain his relationship with his lover, Dot. In Act 2, a century later, Seurat's descendant – also named George and also an artist – finds himself burnt out and in search of what artistic path to follow, but he finds the answer to his future in the past. Additional info: Please note: there is a production fee applied Callbacks, if needed, will be by invitation only on Tuesday, August 18, at 6:00 p.m. 1. Prepare a contemporary monologue (60–90 seconds). Choose a piece in which the character is actively trying to change another person's mind, get something they want, or accomplish a specific objective. Your character should be pursuing a clear objective with urgency and specificity. Avoid monologues that primarily recount past events or describe feelings without active dramatic stakes. Looking for playable, dynamic material rather than a narrative or descriptive monologue. Something should be happening! 2. Prepare 32 bars (1–2 minutes) of a song by Stephen Sondheim, with restrictions. If you are interested please apply.
