Santa Rosa, CA, United States
ID: 607194Exp: 8/20/2026
Description:

Open auditions for young girls for “Emilia”. Please see the details below. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. About the project: Emilia by Morgan Lloyd Malcolm is a fierce, poetic, and powerful drama telling the story of Emilia Bassano Lanier, one of England's first published female poets. It beautifully explores her identity as a woman of color in Renaissance England while tackling themes of race, gender, and literary legitimacy. When Shakespeare cast his plays, all roles were performed by men. Emilia inverts that convention — this production will cast women / female-presenting actors throughout. Emilia herself will be played by three women of color, spanning the arc of her lifetime. The ensemble, known as the Muses, each play multiple roles — including William Shakespeare, who appears as an important character in this story of the woman who may have been his Dark Lady.
