It features a rock 'n' roll score by David Bryan, founding member of Bon Jovi, and a book by Joe DiPietro. Loosely based on DJ Dewey Phillips, the musical tells the story of Huey Calhoun, a white radio DJ who risks everything to play Black music in segregated Tennessee, sparking a cultural revolution while falling in love with a Black singer.
