About the project: The Jellicle Cats come out to play on one special night of the year – the night of the Jellicle Ball. One by one, they tell their stories for the amusement of Old Deuteronomy, their wise and benevolent leader, who must choose one of the Cats to ascend to The Heaviside Layer and be reborn into a whole new Jellicle life. Additional info: All auditioners are required to sing a memorized singing audition cut from the options. listed below and learn the choreography. Performance Dates July 17 - August 16, 2026. Vocal Range: Traditionally Tenor ● The narrator of the show, host of the Jellicle Ball, and young leader of the tribe. ● Young adult cat. Intense, energetic, brave and level-headed ● A featured singing cat requiring “character dancing” in featured songs. Will also dance in the ensemble. Ideally has a strong movement/dance background in jazz-theatre style dance ● Prominent Singing Parts In: The Naming of Cats, Gumbie Cat, Old Deuteronomy, Jellicle Ball, Pekes & Pollicles.
Vocal Range: Traditionally Mezzo ● The “outcast/anti-hero” of the tribe ● Desperate, wistful, a lost soul who is attempting to regain dignity and acceptance from the tribe that has shunned her. ● Dynamic and powerful vocal skills and strong acting/expression required. Vocal Range: Traditionally: Baritone ● The “magician” of the tribe ● Clever, impish, neat, a competitive young adult show-off of a cat. ● Dance style highlights: Advanced ballet skills a plus; role will require jumps and turns, bright and electric quality, fun, larger than life personality and very energetic. Will also dance in the ensemble. ● Featured dance number: Magical Mistoffelees
Vocal Range: Traditionally Mezzo ● Elegant, graceful, curious, uninhibited ● Advanced ballet skills and artistry are preferred for this role. This role will require strong adagio solo work. One of the cats who empathizes with Grizabella. Dancers with strong technical skills in ballet and jazz dance are encouraged to audition. Innocent, sweet, affectionate, full of “childlike wonder” and playful ● A jazz/theatre-style dancing cat with some significant featured singing lines. Vocal Range: Traditionally Tenor/Baritone ● The “mystery cat” antagonist of the tribe. ● Aggressive, intense, violent, menacing young adult cat. ● A looming presence and malevolent criminal mastermind who enjoys breaking the law—inspired by Professor Moriarty-- Sherlock Holmes’ Nemesis. ● Dance style highlights: an imposing figure able to dance with brash, explosive movement. Kicks, jumps and lift work are an asset. ● Featured dance number: Macavity’s Fight
