"Seussical" Auditions for Kids and Teens

The Cat is the embodiment of mischief, fun, and imagination. They stir things up, cause trouble, and ultimately helps set things right, guiding JoJo and the audience to discover the power of their imagination as they create the story together. This role requires strong movement skills, comfort with physical comedy, and the ability to improvise with the audience. Vocal Range: F2 to F4

JoJo is a “Thinker”—a bright child with a wildly active imagination. They may be awkward, a bit of a loner, or simply rambunctious, constantly getting into trouble because of their “Thinks.” By the end of the show, JoJo learns responsibility and the power of their own voice and creativity. This role requires a strong singer and a fearless, expressive actor. Vocal Range: Ab3 to C5

Horton is a gentle giant—kind-hearted, steadfast, and deeply loyal. He’s imaginative, sincere, and unwavering in his belief in the goodness of the world. Horton requires an honest, vulnerable actor who moves well and connects deeply with the audience. Vocal Range: A2 to F4

Gertrude begins as shy, insecure, and self-conscious about her one-feather tail. Over the course of the show, she grows into a confident, devoted character capable of great love and courage. She is quirky and far from a traditional ingénue. Vocal Range: F3 to F5 (strong high belt required)

Mayzie is glamorous, self-centered, and manipulative, but not without redeeming qualities. Though vain and carefree, she ultimately shows a moment of honesty and generosity in giving up her egg. This role requires a strong mover with charisma and a powerful belt. Vocal Range: G3 to Eb5

Playful, mischievous troublemakers who love to tease and push boundaries—sometimes too far. These roles require strong physical performers willing to take risks and embrace high-energy movement. Acrobatics, parkour, or gymnastics are a plus but not required. Vocal Requirement: 3-part harmony (Tenor, Baritone, Bass) Ab2 to C5
