About the project: This musical is based on Rosa Guy’s novel My Love, My Love and Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Mermaid. It takes a familiar story, love that crosses boundaries, and sets it in a vibrant island culture. At its heart, it’s about two people from different worlds, and the walls that can stand between us. Ti Moune is a peasant girl who rescues Daniel, a young man from a world of privilege. As she steps into his world, she faces challenges—some from people, some from the island’s fantastical gods themselves—that test what she believes about love, belonging, and what it means to give of yourself. But what truly sets Once on This Island apart is the way the story comes to life. This is storyteller theater in its purest form. Additional info: This is a highly collaborative, ensemble-based production, and looking for strong singers who move well and are willing to fully embody the story—transforming into everything from villagers to gods, from wind and rain to trees and even frogs! Because this is an ensemble-driven production, most rehearsals will involve the full cast. Rehearsals will primarily take place Tuesday through Thursday from 6:30–9:00 PM Two Saturdays from 10:00 AM–2:00 PM One additional Monday evening rehearsal. Performances will be held June 26–28, 2026. Friday at 7:00 PM Saturday at 2:00 PM and 7:00 PM Sunday at 3:00 PM. If you are interested, please apply.
