Based on the true story of the 1899 New York City newsboys’ strike, Newsies is a thrilling tale of courage, friendship, and fighting for what’s right - a message still needed today! This is a show that will inspire and leave you cheering for more! Additional info: Sing 30-45 seconds of a song of your choice in the style of the show. A song from the show is accepted. You must sing with accompaniment. No a cappella auditions will be allowed. Please begin your audition video with a slate of your name, height, and if you are available for callbacks Callbacks (by invitation only): Saturday, May 9th (vocal, movement, and scene callbacks): 9 am - 1:00 pm Tuesday, May 12th (possible additional scene/character callbacks with lead consideration): 7:00 pm - 9 pm Rehearsals will begin May 26th at 6:30 pm Expected rehearsal schedule will be T-F at 6:30-10 pm and Saturday mornings from 10-2 Tech weeks will be from Monday July 27th - August 6th from 6:30-11 pm No absences will be accepted during tech week or performances. Performances: August 7, 8, 14, 15, 21, 22, 28, 29 at 7:30 pm August 8, 15, 22, and 29 at 3:00 pm Please be thorough in your audition form with your potential conflicts during the rehearsal process. Davey’s cheeky sibling inspired by the freedom of the newsies and loves their independent lifestyle. A precocious and natural newsie, Les is an intuitive salesperson and a pint-sized charmer. Vocal range top: Bb3, Vocal range bottom: Db3
A dedicated newsie with a bum leg that’s painful, but helps sell more papes. Though he walks with the assistance of a crutch, Crutchie doesn’t let it define him; when in a jam, Jack Kelly’s best friend relies on a goofy- sweet sense of humor and optimistic resilience. Les’s straight-laced, bright big brother starts selling newspapers to help his family earn a living, but becomes swept up in the fervor of the strike. A leader in his own right who is learning to use his voice to uplift others, Davey is the brains of the resistance. Vocal range top: A4, Vocal range bottom: D3
The proud leader of the Brooklyn newsies, boasts an intimidating reputation and a short singing solo in “Brooklyn’s Here.”
