"Hairspray" The Musical Looking For Boys and Girls
ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE CONSIDERED. Seeking boys and girls for "Hairspray" the musical. See the details below. Additional info: Performances August 14-16th at the Alexis and Jim Pugh Theater at the Doctor Phillips Center for the Performing Arts in Orlando FL. For the audition please prepare 16 bars of a song in the style of the show and bring an instrumental track that can be played through Bluetooth speakers or sheet music in the correct key. Speakers and an accompanist will be provided. CALLBACKS will be held the afternoon/early evening of Saturday May 30th at 10771 International Dr Orlando Fl in the Rivers Conference Room REHEARSALS will begin Wednesday June 3rd and run Mon-Thurs 6:30/7-10:30/11 at either 10771 International Dr Orlando or 10731 International Dr Orlando (both locations are next door to each other). Actors will NOT be called to every rehearsal and directors work around conflicts including parks schedules! THIS IS A NONPAYING COMMUNITY THEATRE PRODUCTION BUT TIPS WILL BE COLLECTED AT ALL PERFORMANCES AND DIVIDED EQUALLY AMONGST CAST MEMBERS. Our story's unsuspecting protagonist, she is large and in charge. Confident, talented, and incredibly determined. A romantic with a good heart and desire to cut up the dance floor. Always on top of the latest trends. Mezzo Belt. Plus size performer who can dance or move VERY well.
Tracy's best friend and dorky sidekick. Not the brightest girl, but she has good intentions. Bursting to get free of her mother's dominating control, she falls for Seaweed with childlike curiosity. Strong comedic soprano belter.
Tracy's classmate and friend, who is discriminated against due to his skin color. He is cocky but surprisingly lovable. He falls for Penny. SEAWEED WILL BE PLAYED BY A BLACK PERFORMER. Tenor who can move very well.
Link's girlfriend and Tracy's nemesis. She is pretty, shallow, snobby, and racist. Always feels the need to be the center of attention. Strong comedic soprano belter who can move well.
The star heartthrob on Corny Collins' show. He is extremely attractive and talented. Hoping to get his big break with a recording contract, he unexpectedly falls for Tracy. Tenor/Baritenor who can move well.
Seaweed's little sister. A great singer and dancer with a quiet exterior, who can and will be bold when the opportunity comes. LITTLE INEZ WILL BE PLAYED BY A BLACK PERFORMER. Mezzo belter who can move VERY well/dance.
A Dynamic Musical Trio, Hairspray’s version of the Supremes. They are the Greek Chorus of the show. THESE ROLES WILL BE PLAYED BY BLACK PERFORMERS. Strong singers who move well.
Tammy, Brad, Shelly, Sketch, IQ, Fender, Lou Ann, Brenda - the other Corny Collins Council Members. Strong singers and dancers/movers. All have lines and solos
Gilbert, Lorraine, Stooie, Cindy, Duane, Thad - Seaweed’s friends. Strong singers and dancers who have solo lines and are featured throughout the show. THESE ROLES WILL BE PLAYED BY BLACK PERFORMERS.
