Description:

ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE CONSIDERED. Seeking child actors for "Newsies" play. See the details below. About the project: Act One follows Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsie who dreams of escaping New York for a better life out West. He and the other newsies scrape by selling papers for Joseph Pulitzer’s World, until Pulitzer raises prices to boost profits at their expense. When brothers Davey and Les join the group, Davey’s growing awareness of injustice pushes the boys to organize. After finding refuge at Medda Larkin’s theater and crossing paths with ambitious reporter Katherine Plumber, the newsies decide to strike. Jack is elected leader, and with Katherine’s coverage helping spread the word, the strike gains momentum—until violence erupts with Pulitzer’s enforcers and the police. Jack flees, wracked with guilt, after his best friend Crutchie is captured and sent to the abusive orphanage known as The Refuge. In Act Two, the newsies celebrate newfound fame from Katherine’s front-page story, but Jack initially refuses to return, believing they can’t beat Pulitzer’s power. Convinced by Davey, Les, and Katherine, Jack rejoins the fight—only to be cornered by Pulitzer, who reveals Katherine is his daughter and threatens Jack with The Refuge unless he abandons the strike. Faced with this ultimatum, Jack seemingly betrays the newsies by taking Pulitzer’s payoff and calling off the rally, leaving the kids disheartened. Ultimately, Jack reconnects with Katherine and recommits to the cause. Together, the newsies secretly print and distribute their own paper exposing child labor abuse, igniting public outrage across the city. With pressure mounting—and Governor Roosevelt stepping in—Pulitzer agrees to a compromise that lowers prices and protects the newsies from losses. The strike ends in victory, Crutchie is freed, and Snyder is arrested. Though Jack once dreamed of Santa Fe, he realizes the newsies are his true family, and with Katherine beside him, he chooses to stay.
