About the project: A young girl grows up in a privately toxic household, observing a conflict she’s too young to understand. As she matures and attempts to escape, she is pulled back by circumstance… Until, at twenty, she must decide whether leaving is worth abandoning a younger sister who will inherit the life she survived. Ages 12-14 and 15-18. Sloane is one of Lauren’s closest friends. Open, expressive, and carelessly secure, she moves through the world without the constant vigilance that Lauren has learnt. She talks openly, expects to be heard, and believes that disagreement will be resolved, rather than tolerated. Her home exudes warmth without ostentation.

Kaylee is the girls soccer team’s best defender. Her parents are her biggest supporters, and attend every one of her games and practices, something that Lauren deeply desires. Kaylee is a loyal, caring, and confident friend to both Lauren and Rachel, and dreams of making it big in soccer one day. MUST BE ABLE TO PLAY SOCCER, AND BRING THEIR OWN SOCCER CLEATS AND SHIN GUARDS.

Rachel is another young soccer player. She and her mom have a typical mother-daughter relationship – supportive, but a little conflictual. Lauren has always been jealous of the way Rachel and her mom joke around at practice, and the time they spend together getting something to eat afterwards. Rachel is outgoing, charismatic, and unafraid to share her opinion. Must be able to play soccer, and bring their own soccer cleats and shin guards.
