Description:

Casting an immersive 180°/360° educational video developed for child welfare social work training at San Diego State University. The project explores the impact of substance use within families involved in the child welfare system through a realistic home visit scenario. The story highlights safety assessment, practitioner decision-making, and the complexities of supporting families experiencing stress. Our goal is to portray family dynamics thoughtfully. Child Roles: • Mateo (9–12 years old): Must be comfortable wearing lightweight (approx. 3 lb) 360° camera equipment via a neck mount or harness for POV-style shots. • Infant (approx. 9 months): Will likely be needed for the maximum allowable on-set hours across two filming days. Anticipated shoot: 2 days in late April (exact dates TBD).

2 roles

MateoMale9-14 y.o.African-American Latino / Hispanic Other Native American

Older child. Actors of all backgrounds encouraged; seeking someone who reads as racially ambiguous, Black, or Latino and does not read as white on screen. Should read younger (not teen), though actor may be older. Mateo is quietly responsible and emotionally observant, often caring for his infant brother when his mother struggles. Protective and cautious with authority, he misses being a kid. Performance must feel natural and grounded, not theatrical or overly mature.

Baby LucaMale0-0 y.o.Latino / Hispanic White / Caucasian Other Native American

Luca is a typical 9-month-old: curious, fussy when tired, and fully dependent on the adults around him. He does not understand the tension in the home, but he reacts to it. When he cries, it raises stress levels quickly. When Mateo his 12 year old brother holds him, he settles almost instantly, revealing just how accustomed he is to his older brother’s care. Luca represents vulnerability in the story.
