6 roles
Type: Dramatic lead/thriller heroine Essence: ordinary on the surface, electric when she performs; hungry, focused, quietly unbreakable In the story: Emma has been auditioning for years (small credits: bit parts, commercials). Tonight she gets the call that can change everything — an urgent self-tape that escalates into an in-person opportunity.
Type: Leader/engine/social director Essence: proactive, charismatic, in-control — until her private hunger to be seen becomes her weakness In the story: Ash is the informal leader and the creative driver of the TikTok choreography. She steers the group, keeps the momentum, and is most susceptible to Jeff’s pitch because she wants the moment to become real. Arc/Playable conflict: leadership vs. denial; ambition vs. judgment.
Type: Protector/catalyst Essence: bristly, reactive, moral spine; toughness as a mask In the story: Connor sometimes overcompensates with a tough exterior because he’s the only guy in the group. Underneath he’s calmer and kinder. He films Emma’s audition — and falls for her instantly. When he returns to the group, he’s running on adrenaline and protectiveness. He’s the first to confront Jeff and escalate the situation. Arc/Playable conflict: protectiveness vs. impulsiveness; courage vs. fear.
Type: Target/emotional center of violation Essence: the most strikingly beautiful of the six; visibility becomes exposure In the story: Ruby is moved into the front row because she “looks best” on camera — making her the primary target of Jeff’s abusive attention. She freezes. Her nonverbal reaction becomes the emotional trigger that pushes Connor to act. Arc/Playable conflict: shame + fear vs. dignity; wanting to disappear while being watched.
Type: Quiet follower/emotional truth/practical instinct Essence: curvier/heavier than the others; socially “managed” by the group; sensitive but not stupid In the story: Lacey is hurt when she’s moved from the front row to the back — essentially hidden for optics. She’s the most passive, easily led… until the danger turns real. Then her survival instinct kicks in and she becomes practical: she sees the exit, the taxi, the one chance to move.
Additional Character. Type: Brave friend/physical ally/“first mover”. Essence: bold, reliable, sharp; doesn’t back down. In the story: Marta is the toughest of the girls and quick with words. In the author’s conception, she’s an immigrant from Eastern Europe, only in Canada a few years — her accent carries it. This friend group is her anchor, her real family here. When things go bad, she’s among the first to jump in physically.
