About the project: The Music Man follows traveling salesman Harold Hill as he arrives in the small town of River City, Iowa, charming its residents with promises of a boys’ band, new instruments, and a brighter future. As the town rallies around the idea of music and possibility, Harold finds himself unexpectedly changed by the community he intended to fool. Production of The Music Man will be a joyful, ensemble-driven celebration of community and connection, centered on what can happen when people choose to believe in one another. The directors will treat River City as a living, breathing character—full of humor, contradictions, care, and collective energy, and explore how fear and hope move through a close-knit community side by side. Additional info: Monday, February 9 – Come-As-You-Are Auditions These auditions are great for first-timers, young performers, or those seeking an ensemble role. No preparation needed! The music director and accompanist will teach you a song from the show. The choreographer will teach you a short combination. The directors will do cold reads from the script Tuesday, February 10 – Prepared Auditions Bring up to 45 seconds (32 bars) of a musical theatre song that showcases your singing and storytelling. You are welcome to bring a song from the show or a song that matches the vocal styling of The Music Man. There will not be an accompanist present, so please bring a backing track (Bluetooth device available) or be prepared to sing a cappella. The choreographer will teach you a short combination. The directors will do cold reads from the script. Callbacks will be held on Sunday, February 22. Those invited will be contacted directly. Rehearsal Schedule Start Date: Monday, March 9, 2026 General Schedule: Monday – Friday evenings. Not all cast members will be called for every rehearsal. Vocal Range: Child’s voice (approx. A3–E5) A tender, meaningful role for a young performer. Winthrop begins guarded and shy, then blossoms as he finds safety, attention, and belonging. We’re looking for honesty and heart rather than just “cute.”
Vocal Range: Tenor/Ensemble A young man trying to outgrow a reputation and imagine a different future. Tommy is sincere, emotional, and hopeful. Strong acting and chemistry required.
Vocal Range: Mezzo/Ensemble The mayor’s daughter. Bright, romantic, and full of momentum, Zaneeta is learning to make her own choices. Strong movement and ensemble presence encouraged.
Vocal Range: Child’s voice Marian’s piano student. Curious, outspoken, and fearless. Looking to be played as clever and observant rather than simply bratty.
Vocal Range: Child/Ensemble The younger daughter of Mayor and Eulalie Shinn. Curious, observant, and eager to be included. A small but meaningful role that adds texture to the Shinn family and the larger community.
Vocal Range: Child/Teen voices Essential to the heartbeat of the show. Energetic, playful, and fully part of the community. We’re looking for young performers excited to collaborate, learn, and build the world together. Play a brass or woodwind instrument? Awesome!
