"Patricio El Penitente" One-Act Play Needs Teen Girls
Seeking actors ages 16 and up for "Patricio El Penitente", a Spanish-language one-act Play. Please see the details below. About the project: The story unfolds in Tres Cruces, a fictional mountain town in northern New Mexico, and in Los Angeles, California, spanning nearly six decades—from 1945 to 2000. Set in the post-World War II era, the play centers on Patricio Pinto, a 19-year-old man who longs to break away from the deeply rooted traditions of the Penitentes in pursuit of his dream of becoming a writer. His decision places him at odds with his family, his faith, and the community that shaped him. The Penitentes are a religious brotherhood, traditionally composed of men, devoted to serving Christ and their communities through lives of humility, sacrifice, and service to those most in need. As part of their spiritual devotion, members practice acts of penance throughout the year, with heightened observance during Lent. During the three days leading up to Easter, the Penitentes gather privately in structures known as moradas—prayer rooms separate from their homes—where they pray and sing sacred hymns continuously, without interruption. Penitente communities still exist today in northern New Mexico and southern Colorado, with historical roots dating back to 1680, following the Pueblo Revolt and the arrival of Spanish settlers. Additional info: Actors will participate in cold readings using script excerpts provided at the theater on the day of the audition.
