About the project: Set in a northern English mining town against the background of the 1984 miners' strike, the show follows eleven-year-old Billy Elliot who unexpectedly discovers a passion for ballet while his family and community face hardship and conflict. Secretly taking dance lessons, Billy must navigate grief, poverty, and rigid expectations as his talent brings both hope and tension to those around him. With the support of his teacher and, eventually, his family and neighbors, Billy pursues an audition for the Royal Ballet School and discovers that the only limitations in life are the ones we place on ourselves. Rate: This is a non-AEA production, roles are unpaid, and no housing provided. Additional info: SHOW RUN: May 1 - 16, 2026 CALLBACKS: Thursday, February 19, 2026, 7-10 pm by invitation. Please include any conflicts you have for the rehearsal period (March 2 - April 30, 2026. No conflicts permitted after April 19). Bring a headshot with a resume (if you have one). Bring sheet music for (16-32 bars) a contemporary Broadway song that best shows off your voice and acting ability (no backing/karaoke tracks or acapella singing). You may be asked to perform a second selection. Dress to move and arrive stretched/warmed up. You will be asked to learn and perform a short piece of choreography to demonstrate your dance/movement ability. Only dance shoes, bare feet, or socks are allowed in the studio. Please bring tap shoes if you have them. IMPORTANT DATES Rehearsals: Begin Monday, March 2, and occur Sundays, 6:00 to 10:00 pm, and Monday - Thursdays, 7:00-10:00 p.m. You may not be called to all rehearsals, but please plan to keep all dates open. Young ballerina ensemble and Michael will be excused by 9:00 pm until we get to work-throughs. Billy's fun-loving and carefree best friend. He is happy in his own skin and lives in the realm of expressing his individuality, going so far as to commonly dress in women's clothing. Must be an excellent tapper and under 5’4”. Vocal Range: Alto (hit top B)
The ballet teacher's daughter. Brazen and confident. Can appear argumentative. Her childhood crush on Billy leads her to constantly belittle and discourage him. Vocal Range: Female voice
Kevin: an older local boy who was friends with Billy until his father became a ‘scab’ during the miners’ strike. Posh Boy: a rich boy from the south of England whom Billy meets during his audition for the Royal Ballet School, and has no comprehension of the difficulty Billy has faced to get there. (RP Accent) Vocal Range: Male voice
