About the project: "Crowns" is an award-winning celebratory musical play using Black church hats as the foundation for an exploration of history and identity as seen through the eyes of Yolanda, a Brooklyn teen who is sent down South after a traumatic loss. On her journey of healing, she explores African American history, identity, and spirituality, to find connection and cultural meaning through women telling their life stories and those of their hats. The powerful narrative of African rituals, slavery to present day life is witnessed through fashion, Gospel music, poetry and dance. Rate: All roles are unpaid. Additional info: - Callbacks will be January 21st, starting at 7 pm. - Callbacks will be held at The Gem Theater Please prepare 2 Gospel (spiritual) songs or hymns. One with accompaniment (karaoke version) and the other a cappella. Please have the verse and chorus prepared. However, be prepared to sing the entire song if requested.
