Seeking Kids for "To Kill A Mockingbird" Play
Seeking talent ages 8 and up for "To Kill A Mockingbird" Play. Please see the details below. About the project: Adapted from the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, To Kill a Mockingbird opens in a sleepy Alabama town in the midst of the Great Depression, where Scout and her brother, Jem, live with their widowed father, Atticus Finch. Reminiscent of a bygone era, the play immerses us in a simpler time as the children play outside in the summer, act out stories and muse about their mysterious neighbor, Boo Radley. The facade of the seemingly peaceful town begins to crack when a young black man is accused of a terrible crime. Driven by an unshakeable moral conviction, local lawyer Atticus defends the man in a trial that sends violent waves through the community. Timeless and lingering, this hard-hitting work explores prejudice, compassion and the courage to do what is right. Additional info: Plan to arrive around 15 minutes early to park and get checked in. When you arrive, members of the production team will be there to assist you and to provide you with an audition form to fill out. You are welcome to bring a resume and/or headshot to attach to your audition form, but it is not necessary. Once you have filled out your form and returned it to the production team, you will be assigned a number and have your photo taken with your number tag visible prior to being sent into the auditorium to find a seat and proceed with auditions. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. If callbacks are held, auditioners may be contacted by a member of the production team and asked to return on the evening of January 28. Please note that not getting called back does not mean that you are not cast (and vice versa); callbacks are simply a helpful opportunity for the director to expand on anything they feel they missed from the initial auditions. Rehearsal schedule details are pending, but generally will begin on Monday, February 2, and run Monday–Thursday, 7 PM – 10 PM (children will typically be released by 9 PM until a week or two prior to performances). Rehearsals will take place at the Theatre Denton Annex at the Golden Triangle Mall until we move into the Campus Theatre on March 23. After casting has been confirmed and actors’ conflicts have been factored in, cast members will be provided with a more comprehensive rehearsal schedule. Show dates: Apr. 10, 11, 12, 16, 17, 18, 19. If interested, please apply.
