Seeking Teens for "A Midsummer Night's Dream" Play
Talent ages 16 and up are welcome to audition for "A Midsummer Night's Dream" Play. Please see the details below. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. About the project: The play opens to the sounds of banjo, fiddle, and mandolin harmonizing on a classic American folk song as the audience is transported to Athens… Louisiana (which is a real place!). Spanish moss and wisteria sway above the stage. Kudzu and bougainvillea tangle their way up the set. It is July on the Delta. The Gulf Coast. The bayou. And as anyone who has lived below the Mason-Dixon Line can attest, summer in the South is a force of nature. Heat buzzes in the air. Unseen creatures click and hiss in the trees and reeds all around. The sun seers. Fickle winds deliver cooling breezes one moment and invoke cloudy darkness the next. A storm is always brewing. And the wetlands come to life. Additional info: Looking for lovers of Shakespeare, people who like to have fun, those with an open mind, and those who like to experiment with movement! This will be a unique production of Midsummer, and you’ll tailor it to the strengths of our performers. If you play an instrument or have a special skill, please let directors know. Please choose one (or more!) of the monologues below to pre-record and submit (as video files) with your completed audition form. Accents are not necessary. Lysander is a servant in the court of Athens. He is in love with Hermia.
Helena is a servant in the court of Athens and Hermia’s best friend. She is in love with Demetrius but he does not love her back anymore.
Demetrius is a gentleman of the court of Athens. He is in love with Hermia and Egeus wants them to marry.
Puck, also called Robin Goodfellow, is a fairy and Oberon’s servant.
Quince is a hired worker in Athens. He is the ringleader of the players rehearsing to perform for the Duke’s wedding celebrations.
Bottom is a hired worker in Athens. He is rehearsing to be in a play for the Duke’s wedding celebrations.

The “Swampsemble” (a unique invention of our production) brings the natural environment of the play to life with sticks, flashlights, singing, chanting, and, of course, movement and dance. They are flora and fauna. Humidity and mud. Shadowy figures of local lore. Saving spirits of the eternal earth.
