About the project: FUN HOME is a refreshingly honest, wholly original musical about seeing your parents through grown-up eyes. Based on Alison Bechdel’s New York Times best-selling graphic novel, it is a five-time Tony Award-winning, taboo-busting musical that dives deep into Alison’s past to tell the true story of growing up with a brilliant but volatile father whose temperament and secrets defined her family and her life. Alison is a cartoonist – it’s her job to fit stories into boxes. But her own life story sings outside the box. Moving between past and present, Alison relives her unique childhood playing games in the family’s funeral home; her growing understanding of her own sexuality, and the looming, unanswerable questions about her father’s hidden desires. Additional info: Please arrive 10-15 minutes prior to your time slot prepared with sheet music in the correct key for the accompanist. Please prepare approximately one minute of a song in the style of the show; songs from FUN HOME are not acceptable. No tracks or a acapella auditions are accepted; please bring sheet music to your key. A piano accompanist will be provided. Please arrive dressed and ready for a movement call.
