About the project: LOGLINE: A 10-year-old navigates her relationship with her charming but oblivious grandpa as his flirting leads to a meltdown, a locked baby in the car, and an old family trick saving the day. SYNOPSIS: Kara is a precocious 10-year-old who’s thick-as-thieves with her built-in best friend and recently widowed grandfather, Joe. Their typical weekend routine consists of their favorite diner and shared cups of coffee, except this time, Kara’s baby sister Isabelle tags along. Unfortunately, a few of Grandpa Joe’s female friends make appearances and begin flirting with him in front of Kara, back-to-back. Her intolerance for the persistent displays of affection continue to build until the moment Grandpa Joe receives a lush kiss on the lips from a third woman, making Kara blow her last shred of composure. Consequently, Kara’s outburst immediately bites her in the butt when she realizes she’s accidentally locked Isabelle in the car, and Grandpa Joe is livid. Despite Kara’s behavior towards her, the woman willingly helps soothe the situation, allowing Kara and Grandpa Joe to focus on Isabelle rather than fighting. In an attempt to right her wrong, Kara uses a family trick to unlock the door and saves her sister. Grandpa is relieved about Isabelle but knows he must make things right with Kara. She eventually reveals the confusion of seeing her widowed grandfather openly flirting in such an overwhelming degree, and especially his complete lack of self-awareness regarding her. This prompts a necessary conversation about Kara’s late grandmother, grief, love, and forgiveness, unlocking a new level of understanding in Kara and Grandpa Joe’s already profound relationship.
