Boys and Girls Needed for "The Wizard of OZ" Show
Easton HS & EMS Students are welcome to audition for "The Wizard of OZ" Show. Please see the details below. Additional info: NOTE: You must attend both dates. VOCAL AUDITION: Prepare around 30-45 seconds from a musical show that has a similar style of music to The Wizard of OZ and works with YOUR VOICE. DO NOT CHOOSE A SONG FROM The Wizard of OZ. Directors are requiring EVERYONE to audition with a background/karaoke track. Do not sing with a recording of the artist’s voice or sing a acapella (with no accompaniment). Please have your music queued up to the spot on the track you want to start before coming into the audition room. You will be able to connect to a speaker via Bluetooth or an aux cable. ACTING AUDITION: Prepare a 1-2 minute monologue. This should NOT be from The Wizard of OZ. The point of acting is to show the character and their feelings, not to show that you can stand and speak words that are memorized. Do NOT write your own monologue. DANCE/CHARACTER MOVEMENT AUDITION: Students will be taught a simple dance routine and will have to perform it in a small group for the directors. Directors will also be doing some movement/character exercises to see how students Interpret a character’s movement. Wear appropriate/athletic clothing and shoes for the dance audition. Jazz shoes or tennis shoes are best. Do NOT wear flip-flops, sandals, Crocs, or open-toe shoes. You may also not dance barefoot. Wear appropriate support undergarments for both male and female-identifying students. Show Dates: March 13, 14, 15, 20 & 21 Strike - Show Breakdown and cleanup. Sunday, March 22 - Students and Families will be required to help with the strike. Tech week/dress rehearsals - Yes, there will be 2 weeks of Tech rehearsals. March 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 (Sat.), 9, 10, 11, 12 THESE ARE MANDATORY!!! That means, if you miss one, you WILL be cut from the show. Please download the attachment for the audition packet. (Range: G3-C5 (opt. E5)Mezzo/Mix). A sweet, innocent young girl with a streak of boldness, outspoken and headstrong, who dearly loves her family, friends and dog, Toto; Lives on a farm in Kansas with her Aunt Em & Uncle Henry, but dreams of escaping to a far-off place where she will not get into trouble. Must be comfortable with dogs and heights.
(Soprano, Range: G3-C5). Aunt Em is demanding, but loves her niece. She’s a typical, hard-working farmer’s wife who is firm & no-nonsense but also warm and caring. Glinda is the Good Witch of the North. Benevolent and beloved. Regal, elegant, and respected. She is the mother figure for Munchkins and Dorothy whom she guides through Oz; delicate and graceful. Must be comfortable with heights.
(Baritone). Henry is Dorothy’s pleasant uncle. The Guard is a big over the top presence.
(Baritone/Tenor, Range: Bb2-F#4 [opt. Ab4]) Clumsy farmhand on the Kansas farm; talks about being smart and having a brain. Good body control is needed. Scarecrow is plucky and clever in a pinch, even while lacking a brain.
(Baritone/Tenor, Range: Bb2-G4) Kind, sweet and nurturing farmhand. The Tin Man is desperate for a heart. A kind-hearted romantic.
(Baritone, Range: Bb2-F4) Farmhand who lacks courage. The lion is a mix of bravado and cowardice. Should move well. Excellent comic timing and character voice.
Well-off, cold-hearted neighbor of Dorothy and her family. She hates Toto. The witch is the villain character with an over-the-top stage presence. Must be comfortable with heights.
Older father figure with an eccentric flair. Professor Marvel is a traveling salesman who lives by telling fortunes; a con-man but with a good heart. The Wizard of Oz is nothing more than a “showman.” Wants people to fear him and respect his power, but really lacks the confidence to stand up for himself. Must be comfortable with heights.
Offstage choral voice singers. Must be able to harmonize.
