"The Sound of Music" Needs Boys and Girls

"The Sound of Music" needs kids and teens. Please see the details below. About the project: The inspirational story, based on the memoir of Maria Augusta Trapp, follows a postulate who serves as governess to the seven children of the authoritative Captain von Trapp. Features cherished songs, including “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” “My Favorite Things,” “Do-Re-Mi,” and the title number, The Sound of Music. Additional info: Auditioners are requested to prepare a song cut, approximately one minute long, that shows their range and melodic ability in a classical music theatre style, and four or five sentences about themselves to share during the audition. There will be readings from the script and movement segments. Clearly readable paper music for the pianist is required. You perform with a live orchestra, so please do not plan to audition with a recording. You will love the pianists! In addition to the one-minute cut of a song and the four or five autobiographical sentences, it is optional to look over some excerpts of songs from the show to familiarize yourself with the style of the music. Excerpts (optional) are attached. Rehearsals begin with 3 or 4 calls per week and add a 5th call on the 5th or 6th week of rehearsals. The younger Von Trapp children rehearse for 40 minutes, three nights a week, for the first few weeks. Two Saturday afternoon rehearsals are planned, depending on the availability of the children.
