About the project: "A VHS Christmas Carol" is a 45 minute musical that re-imagines the classic Charles Dickens Book, A Christmas Carol. It is inspired by 80’s style music and is told exclusively through song. To enhance the VHS Christmas Carol experience, spoofs of nostalgic ’80s commercials and public service announcements will be incorporated into the show. Depending on the amount of interest, commercials may be performed by the cast of the VHS Christmas Carol, or there may be a separate “commercial crew” cast. Additional info: Looking for singers, dancers, and actors ready to bring Dickens’ classic to life with neon lights, big hair, and 80s jams! Please prepare a piece of music to sing, either from the show itself or a Christmas classic with an 80s flair. Come ready to read from the script. Is featured throughout the entire production. This storyteller uses musical interludes to introduce the characters, scenes and progresses the story along. This character is mostly stationary but vocally should have a strong, sustaining voice that can harmonize and have good musical timing.
Is the crabbiest, scumbaggiest business man who is taken on a musical journey through his past, present and future. Vocally, should have a strong voice that can sustain movement and bad dancing. Also have good vocal range and ability to harmonize with fellow cast members.
Is the ghost of Scrooge's deceased business partner who warns of the peril from their sustained greedy lifestyle. This character has a featured song with an alto-soprano voice. The song does not involve as much dancing, but should be able to portray regret in a comedic way.
Guides Scrooge through his past to re-live pivotal moments in his life. This character sings a featured song and should be able to reach alto-soprano range while performing gentle aerobic type movements. Also should be able to portray an apathetic attitude.
Shows Scrooge how his lack of empathy and reclusive lifestyle affects others. This character sings a high energy pop anthem complete with a group dance number. Vocally, should have a tenor pop voice with the ability to sing and dance at the same time. Need to portray an electrifying attitude.
Gives Scrooge a glimpse into his future if he doesn’t change his nefarious ways. This character sings a haunting operatic song. Should be a soprano who can volcalise with a limited amount of words.
Is Scrooge's hardworking but timid employee who despite being poor has the one thing money can’t buy, the love of his family. This character sings the lead of a featured song along with the Cratchit family. Vocally, should have a tenor voice and ability to portray love and emotion through song.
Is Bob Cratchit’s loyal wife who has an apparent disdain of Scrooge. This character sings along with her husband and children in a featured song. Vocally, should be a soprano and have the ability to sing in harmony.
Is Bob Cratchit’s sickly yet optimistic son. This character sings along with his family in a featured song and should portray a loving, lighthearted attitude despite having a severe illness.
Is Scrooge’s girlfriend turned ex-fiancé. This character sings the lead in a song along with both the older and younger Scrooge characters. Vocally, should be a soprano and portray heartbreaking resolve.
Navigates through life changing events that turn him into the man he is today. This character sings a supporting vocal in a featured song along with Belle and the older Scrooge character. Vocally, should be a tenor and portray a confused yet stubborn young man.
Scrooge’s nephew who embraces his late mothers loving attitude by repeatedly inviting Scrooge to family functions. Fred is a supporting singer in several group songs. Vocally, should have pop style vocals while being able to dance.
Each supporting role will portray various characters and add vocals to several group songs. Must also have the ability to perform simple dances. Some Supporting Roles may need to quickly change characters and assist with scene changes.
Will be in featured in a number of different 80’s style commercials, advertisements and nostalgic public service announcements. Commercials may be sung or read and may involve light dancing. Members of this crew should be ready to be silly and have lots of fun
