Singing Audition for Upcoming Shows
Seeking young performers to audition for "25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" and "Change To Passage: A New Musical". Please see the details below. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. About the project: "Change To Passage: A New Musical" A young child runs in an alley from a protest in the streets for equality. Once they are in hiding, they end up in an abandoned warehouse that used to be an old history museum. Within seconds, the museum figures come alive and they take the child on a journey of changes that happened in America to make him realize why he can continue this life in the world we live in. This is an original Broadway pop score with a "Hamilton" feel. Rate: CAST IS PAID for "Change To Passage: A New Musical" as this is a NEW Musical. Additional info: Students must come with a headshot and a resume and should arrive twenty minutes prior to their audition to fill out paperwork. Please provide a headshot, sheet music, and a list of conflicts. You are NOT allowed to sing a cappella, in a group/duet, with a track, or without sheet music. A live accompanist will be provided. DIRECTORS DO NOT cast everyone who auditions. They are only casting the amount for what the show is calling for, per the director's vision. "25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" Show: November 14th and 15th at 7:00pm Requirements: Must sing a (32 bar) song from a Broadway Musical (DO NOT SING FROM THE SHOW). Must have a one-minute comedic monologue. Rehearsals will start Saturday, September 20th. "Change To Passage: A New Musical" Show: February 27th and 28th at 7:00pm and 28th at 1:00pm Requirements: Must sing a (32 bar) song from a Broadway Musical Rehearsals will start January 5th, 2026 Note that the participation fee will be involved. (Schwartzy) Logainne is the youngest andmost politically aware speller, often making comments about current political figures. She is driven by internal and external pressure, but above all by a desire to win to make her two fathers proud. She is somewhat of a neat freak, speaks with a lisp, and will be back next year. The second runner-up in his district, Leaf gets into the competition on a lark and finds everything about the bee incredibly amusing. He is home-schooled and comes from a large family of former hippies. He has severe Attention Deficit Disorder and spells words correctly while in a trance. A3 - A5
A Putnam County Spelling Bee finalist last year, he was eliminated because of an allergic reaction to peanuts and is back for vindication. His famous "Magic Foot" method of spelling has boosted him to spelling glory, even though he only has one working nostril and a touchy, bullying personality. He develops a crush on Olive. E4 - B5
A recent transfer from Virginia, Marcy placed ninth in last year's nationals. She speaks six languages, is a member of all-American hockey, a championship rugby player, plays Chopin and Mozart on multiple instruments, sleeps only three hours a night, hides in the bathroom cabinet, and is getting very tired of always winning. She is the poster child for the Over-Achieving Asian, and attends a Catholic school called "Our Lady of Intermittent Sorrows." She is also not allowed to cry. C4 - E5
A young newcomer to competitive spelling. Her mother is in an ashram in India, and her father is working late, as usual, but he is trying to come sometime during the bee. Having found comfort in its words and vastness, Olive made friends with her dictionary at a very young age, helping her to make it to the competition. She starts enormously shy, and shyly blossoms. The number-one realtor in Putnam County, a former Putnam County Spelling Bee Champion herself, and the returning moderator. She is a sweet woman who loves children, but she can be very stern when it comes to dealing with Vice Principal Panch and his feelings for her. Her interest in thecompetition is unflagging and drives it forward. B3 - F5
The Vice Principle. Frustrated with his life, he finds the drive of the young spellers alien to him. After five years' absence from the Bee, Panch returns as judge. There was an "incident" at the Twentieth Annual Bee, but he claims to be in "a better place" now, thanks to a high-fiber diet and Jungian analysis. He is infatuated with Rona Lisa Peretti, but she does not return his affections.
The Official Comfort Counselor. An ex-convict, Mitch is performing his community service with the Bee, and hands out juice boxes to losing students. He has no idea how to offer comfort, but does find himself wishing he could find a way to make the kids feel better. E4 - A5

The African Storyteller. This character tells the story of America and must captivate the audience and have an excellent stage presence. This is THE lead of the show.
Is a young kid in the twenty-first century, who is curious about everything and wants to learn more about the world they are living in. This is a lead role of the show.
A vibrant museum figure who loves herself and her culture. She is sweet natured and loving. She plays a multiplicity of roles as well throughout the show.
Another museum figure in the history museum. She is the former First Lady who was married to President John F. Kennedy. She has class and is very poised.
Another museum figure in the history museum who is very well respected. He has a strong speaking voice and character. He looks after the little boy as one of his own during the historical journey in the Museum.
Another museum figure, nice white young man who is from the 1960’s. He is full of joy and energy.
Another museum figure, who is bigger than life. Always has a joke to tell and is light hearted, but sensitive too. This is a great character role.
One of the oldest museum figures in the museum. She is old, mean, and has no tolerance for play. She has a lot of spunk and attitude with her. She’s always determined to get to Freedom.
Another historical figure, from the sixties (white female) who loved and fought for civil rights. She comes off very strong but is loving to all.
A scary historical figure from the early 1800s. He was known as the “African voodoo man”. He is the antagonist is the story and wants to scare the little bot of the history of America. Another great character role.
A historical figure from the early 1900s. She is brave and daring and is very full of energy. She loves to fly planes.
Another historical figure of the museum. Directors meet a very young version of him and he is for equality and always speaking and walking tall.
