What begins as a quirky Southern Gothic tale unfolds into a deeply moving meditation on family, loneliness, and survival. Edgar as a boy. Intelligent, sensitive, and imaginative. Forms a tight, almost twin-like bond with his sister Helen and follows his eccentric mother through an usual, cloistered Southern gothic childhood. Appears in reenactments and visual sequences. Expresses wonder, fear, and yearning.
Edgar’s older sister, co-conspirator, protector, and muse as a child. Strong, artistic, nurturing but also craving freedom. Often the ringleader in their fantasies and escape plans. Later becomes a painter living in Italy. Her deep bond with Edgar is the emotional core of the show. Requires warmth, strength, and humor.
