About the project: Once On This Island Jr. is a 60‑minute, Caribbean‑infused adaptation of the Tony‑nominated Broadway musical by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, inspired by Rosa Guy’s novel and Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Mermaid. The story follows Ti Moune, a peasant orphan rescued by the island’s gods, who falls in love with a wealthy boy named Daniel—but her quest to save him tests love against prejudice, death, and social division. Packed with nonstop song, dance, and vivid storytelling, it’s designed for young performers with colorful, minimal sets and imaginative movement to bring the island’s magic to life.
