Villain; a mysterious, talking, man-eating plant. Audrey II oozes charm and coolness, using slick talk and music to manipulate Seymour. Strong ability to be persuasive. Can exploit others’ weaknesses. Note: Audrey Two is typically voiced by an off-stage performer while a puppeteer handles the plant’s physical movement, however, Theatre Charlotte is interested in casting a charismatic performer with stage presence who may make an onstage appearance complementing the plant puppet.
Operates the physical movements of the man-eating plant, Audrey Two, from small pot to massive monster. This requires a highly physical performer or puppeteer. The individual works closely with the voice actor to match energy, timing, and emotion. Brings the plant to life with personality — even small movements (nods, lunges, leans) convey intent and mood. Must understand comedic beats and dramatic tension, hitting cues cleanly with charm or menace.
The Puppeteer needs strength and stamina. Operating the larger puppets (especially Audrey II Pods III and IV) requires upper-body strength and long periods in confined, hot spaces. The use of hands, arms, shoulders and at times the entire torso, to animate the plant’s mouth, vines, and body. Puppeteers may be double cast and serve in the ensemble or as understudies. There are also non-singing roles for puppeteers.
