About the project: “Inspired by a true story…BRIGHT STAR tells a sweeping tale of love and redemption set against the rich backdrop of the American South in the 1920s and ’40s.” Alice is an all-about-business editor with a hidden past. Twenty-one years ago, Alice and her sweetheart, Jimmy Ray, fell in love and got pregnant. Despite their excitement to start their life together, their fathers intervene and take their child. Jimmy Ray finds out that his father killed the baby. Jimmy Ray runs away from Alice, unable to burden her with the truth. Two decades later, Billy has come home from war. He is determined to become a published author. His journey leads him to Alice’s office, where he gets a job. When Alice travels home with Billy to research a story, she discovers the truth that her baby is alive. Billy is her long-lost son. Additional info: Prepare a memorized 30-45 second monologue and 16-32 bars of a musical theater song. Bring sheet music for the accompanist or a karaoke track. You cannot sing a cappella for your audition. Prepare to learn a short choreography combination. Wear comfortable clothes that you can move in. Callbacks will be held on July 12th.
