"The Wizard of Oz" Needs Kids and Teens
Kids ages 7 and up are invited to audition for "The Wizard of Oz". Please see the details below. About the project: There is no one alive who didn’t grow up with The Wizard of Oz. Kansas, Munchkinland, the Emerald City, and the Witch’s Castle are such a part of my childhood that, in my memories, they feel like places I’ve lived rather than sets from a movie. And I don’t think I’m alone in that. The story and the characters are ingrained in us. We all know the songs. Let’s give our audience the characters they know and love. Let’s help everyone who sees this show feel that amazement they felt when they first saw the movie. And let’s let our performances, along with the amazing set, lighting, effects, and costumes, create that wonder and awe for children and the young at heart, seeing it for the first time. –(Mezzo-Soprano. Range: G3-C5 (opt. E5)) Dorothy has a sweet, innocent presence, which masks a brave and loyal streak.
Farmhand / COWARDLY LION (Baritone/Tenor. Range: Bb2-F4) Zeke is a big-talking farmhand who works for the Gales. The Cowardly Lion befriends Dorothy on the road to Oz. He has more courage than he gives himself credit for. This role calls for a strong, physical comedian who sings and moves very well.
Farmhand / TINMAN (Baritone/Tenor. Range: Bb2-G4) Hickory is a cranky, bossy farmhand who works for the Gales. The Tin Man befriends Dorothy on the road to Oz. He has more heart than he gives himself credit for. This role requires dancing ability with good comedic instincts.
Farmhand / SCARECROW (Tenor/baritone. Range: Bb2-F#4 (opt. Ab4)) Hunk is a goofy farmhand who works for the Gales. The Scarecrow quickly befriends Dorothy on the road to Oz. He has more brains than he gives himself credit for. This role calls for strong stage movement with good comedic instincts.
