Casting Teen Performers for "The Taming of the Shrew" Show

About the project: Set against the playful backdrop of a 1950s sitcom, this lively take on Shakespeare’s classic comedy brings a fresh twist to a timeless tale. The Taming of the Shrew is a fast-paced battle of the sexes featuring a cast of madcap characters. The clever Petruchio must match wits with the fiercely independent Kate, while the lovestruck Lucentio gets tangled in a web of mistaken identities as he vies for the hand of the beautiful Bianca. Will love conquer all—or will these couples remain at odds forever? Additional info: Auditions will consist of your choice of one of the attached monologues as well as a Shakespearean monologue of your choice. Monologues do not need to be memorized. Callbacks (if needed): Sunday, May 3 | 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. The first read-through will be held during the first week of May. All rehearsals and performances will be held outdoors on the lawn of the State House of 1676, except for the sensory-friendly matinee on August 10, which will take place indoors. Please come prepared to list all scheduling conflicts between April 29 and August 17, 2025. Anyone who accepts a role after listing no conflicts and then submits a significant number of conflicts may be recast. Performances: August 7, 8, 9 and August 14, 15, 16 (Outdoors at the State House of 1676) Sensory-Friendly Matinee: August 10 (Indoors at the Dodge Performing Arts Center, St. Mary’s College of Maryland) Rehearsals begin the first week of May and will be held outdoors.
