Casting Teen Performers for "Memphis" Play
Now casting teen performers for the play "Memphis"! See the details below. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. About the project: Memphis is set in the places where rock and roll was born in the 1950s: the seedy nightclubs, radio stations and recording studios of the musically-rich Tennessee city. Inspired by actual events, it tells the story of a young, white DJ named DJ Huey Calhoun, (loosely based on real life Dewey Phillips) a good ole’ local boy with a passion for R&B music who falls in love with everything he shouldn’t: rock and roll and an electrifying African-American singer, Felicia Farrell, an up-and-coming black singer that he meets one fateful night on Beale Street. Despite the objections of their loved ones (Huey’s close-minded mama and Felicia’s cautious brother, a club owner), they embark on a dangerous affair. Experience the cultural revolution that erupted when his vision met her voice, and the music changed forever. Additional info: Callbacks will be held on Wednesday, May 14, at 7 pm by invitation only.
