Seeking Teens for "Afflicted: Daughters of Salem" Reading

Birmingham, AL, United States
ID: 584361Exp: 5/5/2025
Description:

Talent ages 13-18 years old are needed for the "Afflicted: Daughters of Salem" Reading. Please see the details below. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. About the project: In 1691 Puritan New England, fear and superstition were rampant. Singing, dancing and amusement of any kind was forbidden. The devil was everywhere. Five girls coming of age in Salem Village, desperate for release of their thoughts and feelings, find an ally in Tituba, a black slave who longs for freedom. Deep in the woods the girls make a pact and build a sisterhood. Then alliances are formed, promises made and broken, power taken. Afflicted: Daughters of Salem tells the story of the Salem girls—Abigail Williams, the leader, Ann Putnam, Mercy Lewis, Mary Warren and Betty Parris, and the events that led up to the infamous Salem witch trials. This origin story examines how these teenage girls became accusers and caused 20 people to be put to death for witchcraft. Afflicted: Daughters of Salem explores not only the history and causes of the trials but also how girls raised in oppression have negotiated alliances and power throughout history, just as they do today. Additional info: This production is designed for actors who want to go deeper. The best part? No need to memorize lines! This means you can focus all your energy on exploring your character's personality and relationships and making bold choices on stage. If you're ready for a challenging and rewarding acting experience where you'll genuinely grow, no singing required. For the audition, students do not need to prepare anything. At the audition, you will do cold reads from the script. Readings are done in all black with scripts on music stands and minimum technical elements. The focus of the reading is on students refining their acting skills through table work and text analysis, and learning to tell a great story through a deep comprehension of character analysis and dialogue interpretation. Bring your headshot (picture of yourself) and resume (list of performances and arts classes) to the audition. Bring a parent or guardian to the audition. All auditions begin with a short mandatory meeting with parents and guardians. Before you come, please read the Young Artist Production Reading Performer Manual attached to understand the scope of the expectations. Note that the fee will be applied. If interested, please apply.
