About the project: When Ren and his mother move from Chicago to a small farming town, he is prepared for the inevitable adjustment period at his new high school. But he’s not prepared for the rigorous local edicts, including a ban on dancing instituted by the local preacher, who is determined to exercise control over the town’s youth. When the reverend’s rebellious daughter sets her sights on Ren, her roughneck boyfriend tries to sabotage Ren’s reputation, with many of the locals eager to believe the worst about the new kid. The heartfelt story that emerges pins a father longing for the son he lost against a young man aching for the father who walked out on him. Additional info: VOCAL AUDITION: Prepare 16-32 bars (about 1 minute) of a musical theater song in the style of Footloose (pop/rock, contemporary, or classic musical theater). Bring a backing track (no vocals). A Bluetooth speaker and CD player will be available. Some characters may be asked to sing specific songs from the show (e.g., Ren: "I Can’t Stand Still," Ariel: "Holding Out for a Hero"). DANCE AUDITION: Be ready to learn a short Footloose-style dance combination (wear comfortable clothes and shoes you can move in). No prior dance experience is required for all roles, but some roles require strong movement skills. ACTING AUDITION: Sides from the script will be provided at auditions. Be familiar with the show’s characters and story. REHEARSAL & COMMITMENT: Rehearsals: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays (6–9 PM), starting April 29th.
