Seeking Kids and Teens for "Beetlejuice Jr." Show
"Beetlejuice" Auditions are open to youth ages 12-18 years old. Please see the details below. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. About the project: Adapted directly from the full-length Broadway hit musical Beetlejuice, the ghost-with-the-most comes to the stage in this edgy junior adaptation of everyone’s favorite irreverent musical comedy based on Tim Burton’s dearly beloved film. Beetlejuice tells the hauntingly comedic yet touching story of Lydia Deetz, a strange and unusual teenager obsessed with the whole “being dead thing.” Lucky for Lydia, her new house is haunted by a recently deceased couple (Adam and Barba Maitland) and Beetlejuice, a delightful demon with a real zest for life. Trying to help the newlydeads maintain possession of their home, Lydia calls on Beetlejuice to scare away anyone with a pulse by calling his name thrice, allowing him to materialize and wreak havoc. The double-crossing specter, however, shows his true stripes … unleashing a Netherworld of pandemonium. Additional info: Please dress appropriately and expect to have your photo taken after you have signed in. Please do not bring props to the audition. Also, the casting committee requests that you do not wear costumes or face paint. A dancing audition is required for all performers. Auditioners should bring jazz shoes if they have them. If you don’t own jazz shoes, please bring comfortable sneaker type shoes you’re able to move in. Be sure to bring a water bottle and a snack. Auditions will consist of singing, dancing, and acting requirements. SINGING: Everyone needs to prepare the song selection from the show list for the primary character they want to be considered for. Auditioners may be asked to vocalize to determine vocal range. It is recommended that you also prepare a second song from the list if needed for callbacks. Be sure to add characterization and mannerisms that fit the character while bringing your best voice forward. DANCING: You will be asked to perform a short dance routine (in groups) during the auditions. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes you can dance in. Bring Jazz Shoes if you have them. ACTING: All actors will be asked to read one or more sides provided during the audition. These sides are available in advance so you can familiarize yourself with the material. Please come prepared to bring unique characterizations to each role you are asked to read. Review the sides beforehand and consider the tone of voice, mannerisms, and other traits you would bring to each character, should you be asked to read for that role. You can find more information and audition material in the attachment. If interested, please apply.
