"Newsies" Musical Seeks Boys and Girls

Looking for performers entering sixth grade through one year post high school graduation for "Newsies" Musical. Please see the details below. About the project: Based on the 1992 film of the same name and inspired by the real-life newsboy strike of 1899, Newsies was developed at New Jersey’s own Paper Mill Playhouse and then transferred to New York for a Tony-winning Broadway run, followed by a national tour. Back in the day, newspapers were hawked on the street by youngsters who were taken advantage of by publishers such as William Hearst and Joseph Pulitzer. Newsies tells of the struggles these kids went through to better their lives through increased pay and respect. Through energetic songs and soulful ballads, their story is told along with exciting dance numbers and powerful performances. Additional info: Evening rehearsals will take place at South Plainfield High School beginning on Monday, June 23 with performances of Newsies taking place at the high school on Friday, Aug. 1, Saturday, Aug. 2, and Sunday, Aug. 3.
