Seeking Teenagers for "Newsies" The Musical
This show is for ages 14 and up (with the exception of the role of “Les” which age limit is 10 and up). Please see the details below. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. Additional info: Prepare a 1-minute song in the style of the show. Please come prepared with either a track for your song or sheet music. An accompanist will be provided. You can use a cell phone, tablet, etc. We will have the appropriate cables to connect your device or via Bluetooth. Dress to move in case you are asked to stay for a dance audition. Not everyone will be asked to stay and dance. If you are asked to call back, you will be notified on the morning of Tuesday, April 8th. Reminder: If you are not asked to callbacks, this does not mean you will not asked to be in the show. Only certain characters need additional reading/singing. Important Dates: Rehearsals will be Monday, Tuesday, & Thursday (6:45 pm-9:00 pm – Moving to 9:45 pm in Late May) Sundays – 6:00 pm-9:00 pm (Moving to 9:45 pm in Late May) The first rehearsal will be on Sunday, April 13th at 6:00 pm – It will be an ALL-CALL Read-Through in the Hall. It is mandatory for everyone to attend. Tech Week is Saturday, June 7th – Thursday, June 12th. NO CONFLICTS WILL BE ALLOWED DURING TECH – There are no exceptions to this. Though he walks with the assistance of a crutch, Crutchie doesn’t let it define him; when in a jam, Jack Kelly’s best friend relies on a goofy- sweet sense of humor and optimistic resilience. Les’s straight-laced, bright big brother starts selling newspapers to help his family earn a living but becomes swept up in the fervor of the strike. A leader in his own right who is learning to use his voice to uplift others, Davey is the brains of the resistance. Vocal range top: A4 Vocal range bottom: D3
Davey’s cheeky younger brother, is inspired by the freedom of the newsies and loves their independent lifestyle. A precocious and natural newsie, Les is an intuitive salesboy and a pint-sized charmer. He should present as younger than the other newsies. Vocal range top: Bb3 Vocal range bottom: Db3
The proud leader of the Brooklyn newsies, boasts an intimidating reputation and a short singing solo in “Brooklyn’s Here.”
