About the project: Based on the 1996 Disney film and Victor Hugo’s 1831 novel, The Hunchback of Notre Dame tells the story of Quasimodo, the hunchbacked bellringer of Notre Dame, and his desire to be a part of the outside world. When he summons the courage to attend the Feast of Fools, he meets Esmeralda, a compassionate gypsy who protects him from an angry mob. At the same time, Quasimodo’s master, the archdeacon Dom Claude Frollo, and the new captain of the guard, Phoebus de Martin, both fall in love with the beautiful girl. Caught between the cruel Frollo and the danger posed by the Gypsies, will Quasimodo save Esmeralda from Frollo’s lust and anger? Will she return Quasimodo’s affection? 3 roles

QUASIMODOMale17-18 y.o.All ethnicities

The deformed bellringer of Notre Dame. Ringing the bells daily has left him partially deaf but very strong. Lonely but big-hearted, naïve and shy, Quasimodo has a vivid imagination and unexpected courage. He has a halting speech when speaking to other ‘real’ characters, but his inner monologue and songs are free from this impediment. Vocal range top: Bb4 Vocal range bottom: Bb2

ESMERELDAFemale17-18 y.o.All ethnicities

A strong and free-spirited Gypsy, Esmeralda is able to capture the attention of the multitudes, particularly when she is dancing. Underneath her showmanship, she is deeply compassionate with a strong sense of justice and morality. A strong, flexible dancer. Vocal range top: Db5 Vocal range bottom: F3

THE CONGREGATIONBoth genders17-18 y.o.All ethnicities

DISNEY’S THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME features a highly active ensemble called the Congregation. These are strong, dynamic performances who function as narrators and play multiple featured roles throughout the show. Most will have some soloist parts. Some skilled dancers are absolutely needed, but dancing will not be a requirement for everyone. Acrobatic skills are a plus (please note those on your audition form)!
