About the project: Set during World War II on a remote island in the South Pacific, Rodgers & Hammerstein’s South Pacific tells a sweeping story of love, war, and confronting prejudice. Ensign Nellie Forbush, a spirited U.S. Navy nurse from Arkansas, falls for the sophisticated French plantation owner, Emile de Becque. However, when she learns about his past and mixed-race children, her ingrained biases threaten their future together. Meanwhile, Lieutenant Joseph Cable arrives on the island for a secret military mission and falls in love with Liat, the beautiful daughter of the shrewd islander Bloody Mary.
