Singing Audition for "Romeo & Juliet" Play

Boulder, CO, United States
ID: 581128Exp: 2/16/2025
Description:

Singing auditions for the play "Romeo & Juliet". See the details below. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. About the project: Set in late 1800s Verona, New York, the Montagues and Capulets fan the flames of their age-old feud, willing to do anything to maintain their status in High Society. The Capulets, struggling to stay afloat, consider marrying Juliet off, and the Montagues seek to bolster their status as the richest family in Verona, besides the Governor, of course. This version of Romeo and Juliet seeks to bring queer people into high society regency America, imagining what influence they could have had on the styles of the time; music, clothing, dance, etc. if they were allowed to exist freely. We ask our audience; how can acceptance of queer people existing loudly shape the creativity and art of a community? A city? A country? A world Concept/Setting: This version of R+J will be set in High Society Regency Era America, with a Gender Non-Conforming twist. My production begs the question; what if queer people were allowed to exist in high society? What if they were allowed to exist loudly? The Montagues, our richest snobs in society, hate the Capulets, who are struggling to maintain their status in high society. Are Romeo and Juliet able to bring their families together in harmony with their love, or will this age old feud cause the ballroom to become a battlefield?
