25 roles
lead, tenor [C3–B4] vocal range, significant movement) – lives in a pineapple. He is, most importantly to the director, optimistic. He is also silly and hardworking. He would sacrifice anything to bring his neighbors joy on a good day or to save their lives on a bad one. This role involves climbing on tall set pieces.
lead, mezzo-soprano, alto [G3, A3–E5] vocal range, significant movement) – a multi-talented scientist, inventor, and karateka. She’s a Squirrel from Texas who built her Treedome and air suit to survive underwater. She’s proud, level-headed and cares deeply about her friends. This role involves climbing on tall set pieces.
supporting, tenor [Bb2–Bb4] vocal range, significant movement) – a simple sea star who lives under a rock. He is SpongeBob’s BFF. They spend their time blowing bubbles and jellyfishing. At times immature and short-tempered, Patrick is also friendly, and loyal. The inner machinations of Patrick’s mind are an enigma.
supporting, tenor [B2–G♯4] vocal range, moderate movement) – unsuccessful business owner of the Chum Bucket and business rival to Mr. Krabs. He is highly intelligent, egotistical, and obsessed with world domination. The ability to rap is necessary for the person cast as Plankton.
tenor [A2–F♯4] vocal range, significant movement) – an anthropomorphic clarinet-playing octopus whose Easter Island moai head home regrettably sits between SpongeBob and Patrick’s homes on Conch Street. Though he is cynical, sassy, pretentious, and easily annoyed, he also has a soft spot for SpongeBob. The person cast as squidward will be involved in a vigorous tap dancing routine.
supporting, tenor [B2–Bb4] vocal range, moderate movement) – miserly red crab who owns the Krusty Krab restaurant. He is SpongeBob and Squidward’s employer, Pearl’s father, and Plankton’s business rival. He is obsessed with money and is willing to go to great lengths to increase his wealth.
supporting, soprano, mezzo-soprano, alto [G♯3–F♯5] vocal range, moderate movement) – a waterproof supercomputer who is co-owner of the chum bucket. Karen is Plankton’s computer wife. She is sarcastic and sinister. Problems don’t phase her.
supporting, mezzo-soprano [Bb3–F♯5] vocal range, some movement) – a teenage whale who lives with her father, Mr. Krabs. She is well-intentioned but demanding. The person portraying Pearl must have powerful vocal overtones.
oprano, mezzo-soprano, alto [F♯4–B5] vocal range, moderate movement) – helps to form committees.
bass [E2–E4] vocal range, moderate movement) – Newscaster. Sings a song written by David Bowie. What’s cooler than that?
baritone [D3–F4 {F5 falsetto{] vocal range, moderate movement) – SpongeBob’s number one fan. In this one case, the director is looking for someone who can draw close inspiration from Tom Kenny’s performance.
tenor, baritone, bass [3-part TB] vocal range) – We are specifically looking for people who are comfortable on skateboards (need to mime "playing" guitar while skating). The ability to do skateboard tricks is a plus. For actors who are experts in maneuvering other devices with wheels, the casting team is also open to rollerblading, inline skating, biking, or actors who use wheelchairs for assistance.
