The protagonist and title character of SpongeBob SquarePants. He is the unendingly optimistic yellow sea sponge who is one of the kindest creatures in his undersea city, Bikini Bottom. Optimistic, innocent; energetic and sometimes hyperactive. This actor should move well and be an extremely physical actor - unafraid of climbing and being on tall objects. Naturally funny with great comedic skills and precision. Strong pop tenor. Triple Threat. This character is projected to fly.VOICE RANGE: C3-B4

Patrick Star, a pink starfish, is SpongeBob’s best friend and neighbor. Patrick, who lives under a rock, is well-intentioned but lacking common sense or skills; kind and somewhat clueless, an innocent; a big softie, who can also be prone to sudden child-like fits of rage or frustration. This character is projected to fly. VOICE RANGE: Bb2-Bb4

A brainy and athletic Texan squirrel who came to Bikini Bottom for a research project. She acts as SpongeBob's most trusted ally on their quest to stop the volcano from erupting, using her vast amount of scientific knowledge and brilliant inventions to aid the mission. VOICE RANGE: (G3)A3-E5

Grumpy, cynical, dry, short tempered, generally negative but lovable! This Actor must move well. Strong tapper preferred. VOICE RANGE: A2-F#4

Mr. Krabs' teenage daughter who just wants to be understood by her father and sing with the Electric Skates. This is a character role with Gospel vocal overtones. VOICE RANGE: Bb3-F#5

The greedy owner of the Krusty Krab, and employer of SpongeBob and Squidward. While everyone is off panicking about Bikini Bottom's imminent doom, he decides to strike the iron while it's hot and puts on a huge "apocalypse sale" at his restaurant, exploiting the fear of his fellow fish to make him even richer. VOICE RANGE: B2-Bb4

His personality outweighs his size- slick, scheming, nefarious; has the ability to charm; determined, he will do anything to get ahead in life; but his heart is still open enough to rekindle a romance with his robot wife. This character will need to dance and rap. VOICE RANGE: B2-G#4

Glamorous, a robotic housewife of Plankton. She's been there for Plankton's every scheme and plot and has become jaded. Strong comic actress, as well as Singer and Mover. VOICE RANGE: G#3-F#5

Anchorman on the Bikini Bottom news channel. He is pessimistic and appears periodically throughout the show to provide televised updates on the state of the populous in the day leading up to the prophesied apocalypse. VOICE RANGE: E2-E4

A politician at heart, and maintains her firm reign by instilling fear in her people. She leads the ruthless campaign to rid Bikini Bottom of the squirrel, and gains many followers in the Undersea Creatures. Obvious representation of extremely right-wing and fascist politicians, but realizes the error of her ways in the end. VOICE RANGE: F#4-B5

President of the Spongebob Squarepants television show fan club who introduces the show and addresses the audience, but is kicked out by security guards for stalling the show. He is a loyal fan who finds a way to enter Spongebob’s world. This character is projected to fly. VOICE RANGE: D3-F4 (F5 falsetto)

Rock and roll band members. The Skates are hard-core, grungy, heavy metal meets world wrestling. Strong Dancers, very comfortable on skateboards or roller skates/blades ("playing" guitar while skating preferred), ability to do skateboard tricks a plus. Ability to skateboard/roller skate is preferred but not required. VOICE RANGE: Tenor, Baritone, Bass

The biggest exercise guru in all of Bikini Bottom. Spends much of his time in the gym, and his muscular physique shows it.

Identically-looking group of fish that obsess over Patrick, turning him into their king. Needs to be strong vocalists.

Tap Dancing sea creatures that assure Squidward he is not a loser

Main ensemble of the show, each creature is costumed differently and double as the dancers, various auxiliary plot devices, and incorporated in the set/scene changes.

Patchy the pirates friends who want to show the world that pirates are good people.

Constantly stopping Patchy the pirate from breaking into Spongebob’s world.

High School Teen (Range: Alto, A3-C5); She is a sweet, young, boy-shy, and awkward member of the group who tries to compensate for what she lacks through jokes and overeating. She is often the butt of others’ jokes. Special considerations: this character is made fun of because of her overeating and her size.

High School Teen (Range: Tenor, D4-A5); Perhaps the youngest of the group, Doody looks up to the other guys. He has a boyish sensibility and charm; a bit of an innocent of the group. Special considerations: ability to play guitar or appearance of such on stage.

High School Teen (Range: baritone, G3–A5); This funny Italian-American is a real braggart and self-declared lady’s man. Underneath it all, he respects authority, or at least Miss Lynch, who terrifies him.

High School Teen (Range: Tenor, D4-A5); The anything-for-a-laugh type of boy, likely the class clown who would do anything to get out of the classroom. He enjoys winding people up and coming up with crazy schemes and ideas.

High School Teen (Range: Alto, D4-A4); As the head cheerleader, she has bursts of disconcerting enthusiasm, and the Pink Ladies (most of them) find her especially annoying. She’s aloof to social cues and unafraid to interrupt a conversation or carry one far too long. Special considerations: is bullied by other students; ability to do the splits.

High School Teen (Range: Tenor, A3–E5); He is the physically awkward class valedictorian who is a physically awkward rule follower and a bit gullible to boot. Special considerations: ability/willingness to do pratfalls; is bullied by other students

High School Teen (Range: Tenor, G4-E5); All-American, rock-star “greaser” student at Rydell High, whose real name is Clarence. He leads a band that performs at the school dance. Special considerations: “plays” the guitar on stage; this character will also be a part of the ensemble

High School Teen (Range: Alto, C4–C5); The best dancer at St. Bernadette's; an obnoxious, overly confident loudmouth who wins the dance competition with Danny. Special considerations: a strong dancer; there are negative comments made about this character’s physical appearance; some partner dances may be seen as lewd

Mother and Father's son. He is open-hearted and curious with inexplicable clairvoyance. Never passes judgement on others. Vocal Range: Child E4 - D5.

Tateh's daughter. A vulnerable child in a brand-new home, she has lost her mother and is guarded and shy. She clings to her father. Special Considerations: The Little Girl must deal with a propositioning attempt on her. Ethnicity: Eastern European / Jewish / Latvian-American. Vocal Range: Child C4 to Bb4.

Innocent and pure. Son of Coalhouse and Sarah. This role appears briefly at the end of the play and has no lines or songs.

Most Likely only in 1 or 2 scenes.

Treble/Boy Soprano (A5-C2-low C) The cute and cheeky son of Mr. and Mrs. Banks. Excitable and naughty, he adores his father and tries to be like him. Both he and Jane misbehave in order to get the attention of their parents. Special Considerations: will need to speak in a British accent, be willing to possibly fly at some points in the show

A young girl, Soprano (F♯5/G♭5-A3) The high-spirited daughter of Mr. and Mr. Banks, is bright and precocious but can be willful and inclined to snobbishness. Special Considerations: will need to speak in a British accent, be willing to possibly fly at some points in the show

Baritone (G4-B2), dancer The narrator of the story. He is a good friend to Mary Poppins. An everyman, Bert has many occupations, including hurdy-gurdy player, sidewalk artist and chimney sweep. Bert watches over the children as well as the goings on in Cherry Tree Lane. Special Considerations: will need to be able to move well and execute dance moves; will need to speak in a Cockney accent; will be using flight at some points in the show

Soprano/Mezzo-Soprano (C6 Soprano C/High C-F#3/Gb3), dancer She is extraordinary and strange, neat and tidy, delightfully vain yet particular, and sometimes a little frightening but always exciting. A mezzo/soprano with strong top notes, she should be able to move well and precision and diction is key. Will need to be able to move well in heels/character shoes and execute dance moves; will need to speak in a British accent; will be using flight at some points in the show

Baritone (E♭4-B♭2) The father to Jane and Michael Banks. Demanding "precision and order" in his household, he is a pipe-and-slippers man who doesn't have much to do with his children and believes that he had the perfect upbringing by his nanny, the cruel Miss Andrew. His emotional armor, however, conceals a sensitive soul. A baritone, George may speak-sing as necessary. Will need to be affectionate (possibly kiss) with Mrs. Banks; will need to speak in a British accent

Mezzo-Soprano (D5-A3) George's wife and Jane and Michael's mother. A former actress, she is a loving and distracted homemaker who is busy trying to live up to her husband's desire to only associate with "the best people" as well as be a model wife and mother. She suffers from the conflicting feelings that she's not up to the job of "being Mrs. Banks,". Will need to be affectionate (possible kiss) with Mr. Banks; will need to speak in a British accent.

Soprano (F5-F#3/Gb3) George's overbearing and scary nanny. With her bottle of nasty-tasting brimstone and treacle to keep naughty children in line, she is a bully who only knows one way of doing things - her way. Special considerations: will need to speak in a British accent; will need to move around in heels/character shoes

Alto (D#5/Eb5-A3) The housekeeper and cook for the Banks family. Overworked and harrassed, she's always complaining that the house is understaffed. Her intimidating exterior is a cover for the warmth underneath. Mrs. Brill doesn't have a high opinion of nannies in general and Mary Poppins in particular. Special considerations: will need to speak in a British accent; will need to move around in heels/character shoes

Tenor (G#4/Ab4-F3) The houseboy to the Banks family. Lazy, sleepy, and grumbling, he never gets things right and believes himself to be useless. Special considerations: will need to speak in a British accent

Spoken role A retired Royal Navy man and neighbor of the Banks family with a loud and booming voice. He speaks in Navy jargon and has a soft spot for his neighbor, Miss Lark. Special Considerations: will need to speak in a British accent

Baritone The head of the bank where Mr. Banks is employed, is a stuffy and bossy man. Special Considerations: will need to speak in a British accent

Spoken role The secretary to the Bank Chairman Special Considerations: will need to speak in a British accent

Spoken role Jane and Michael's nanny at the beginning of the show. Overwhelmed and upset, she has absolutely had her fill of the Banks children. Special Considerations: will need to speak in a British accent

Spoken role The haughty next-door neighbor of the Banks family who treats her dog, Willoughby, as if it were her child. Special Considerations: will need to speak in a British accent

Soprano Owns a magical shop. She is a mysterious woman of great age who speaks with an accent. Special Considerations: will need to speak in a British accent; will need to be able to move around in heels/character shoes

Alto/tenor The statue of a young boy in the park. Neleus was separated from his father, Poseidon, and misses him very much. A small and lonely being, he is very happy to befriend Jane and Michael. Can be played by a male or a female. Special Considerations: will need to speak in a British accent; costume could possibly include body suit or body paint; will likely be a featured dance role.

Tenor Uniformed and officious, he makes sure no one breaks park regulations. His life is defined by rules, but he secretly hankers after his childhood. Special Considerations: will need to speak in a British accent

Alto (F#3/Gb3-F5) Covered in a patchwork of old shawls, and her pockets are stuffed with bags of crumbs for the birds which she tries to sell to passersby, who ignore her as if she doesn't exist. Sings "Feed the Birds." Special Considerations: will need to speak in a Cockney accent

Spoken part with solo A businessman (or woman) seeking a loan from the bank for a shady business deal. Special Considerations: will need to speak with a German accent

Spoken part A doll come to life thanks to the magic of Mary Poppins. Valentine has been abused by the children and tries to teach them the importance of being kind and nice by leading the other toys and dolls in a dance and song. Special Considerations: will likely be a featured dance role.

Spoken part A neighborhood fixture who is respected by and observant of households on his beat. Special Considerations: will need to speak in a British accent
