About the project: Bright Star weaves a story of love, loss, and redemption through a Tony-nominated score. Literary editor Alice Murphy meets a young soldier fresh from WWII, igniting a journey into the past that will transform both their lives. With folk and bluegrass melodies, this moving production is a celebration of resilience and hope. Rate: There is no pay or stipend. Additional info: Performances: June 14 – June 29, 2025 Rehearsals Begin: April 21, 2025 Callbacks: Tuesday, Feb 4, 2025, 6–9 PM at HART Theatre. (Callbacks by invitation only—please don’t attend unless asked or pre-arranged with the directors.) What to Prepare: - 32-bar song in the style of Bright Star (tracks only—Bluetooth speaker provided). - Acting auditions will include cold readings from the script. - Wear clothing you can move in for dance auditions. Young Alice at age 16-17 is rebellious, high-spirited, adventurous – looking to break out of small-town life and experience the world. She must be very strong singer and comfortable in folk and bluegrass styles.
A young soldier returning home from WWII; an aspiring young writer; fresh, open, optimistic, charming, and a little naïve.
Billy’s father. A widower. Spry, good looking. Kind hearted, if a bit lonely.
A small-town bookstore owner; a childhood friend of Billy’s who now harbors romantic feelings towards him; she has a keen intellect.
A customer at Margo’s bookstore, at first, he has a crush on Margo, but later becomes Edna’s beau.
