Casting Young Performers for "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz"
Kids ages 8-18 years old are encouraged to audition for "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" Show. Please see the details below. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. About the project: "The Wizard of Oz" is perhaps the most popular children’s story ever written, and here’s a version that’s very simple and economical to stage. This version is exceptionally well-suited for multi-aged groups, with younger cast members playing any number of Munchkins, poppy flowers, and winged monkeys. A cyclone carries Dorothy and her dog, Toto, to the magical land of Oz, where they encounter all the famous characters from the pen of L. Frank Baum... the Cowardly Lion, the Tin Woodsman, the rubber-legged Scarecrow, Glinda the Good Witch, and the evil Witch of the West, who is determined to destroy Dorothy and steal the secret of the silver slippers. The play is filled with wonderful stage thrills... like the escape from the dark forest of the Fighting Trees. And we don’t want to forget the awesome and funny meetings with the great Oz himself. Eventually, Dorothy defeats the evil witch, finds a way to return to Kansas, and her companions have their wishes granted. Additional info: To audition, please prepare one of the monologues attached; memorization is not required. If you would like to audition for one of the Poppies, please be prepared to sing “Mary Had a Little Lamb.” Rehearsals will take place on Mondays and Thursdays from 6–8 PM, with extra choreography rehearsals TBD. The first rehearsal is on February 3. Performance dates are April 25th, 26th, 27th and May 2nd, 3rd, 4th. Children 10 and under must have an adult present on campus for all rehearsals and performances. If interested, please apply.
