About the project: When her father dies unexpectedly, graphic novelist Alison dives deep into her past to tell the story of the volatile, brilliant, one-of-a-kind man whose temperament and secrets defined her family and her life. Moving between past and present, Alison relives her unique childhood playing at the family's Bechdel Funeral Home, her growing understanding of her own sexuality and the looming, unanswerable questions about her father's hidden desires. Fun Home is a refreshingly honest, wholly original musical about seeing your parents through grown-up eyes. Additional info: WHAT TO PREPARE: Auditioners will sing, and present a 1-minute contemporary monologue. Song: Please bring sheet music for a 32-bar piece in the style of the show. (Songs from the show are acceptable.) Alternatively, you may play a karaoke track on your phone as your accompaniment. Monologue: Young actors auditioning for the child roles do not need to memorize their monologue. Some monologues for child actors will be available at auditions. SCHEDULE: Rehearsals will begin the week of March 10th. A detailed rehearsal schedule will follow based on cast availability. Indicate all conflicts on the audition form. There should be no conflicts after April 19th.
