About the project: The production will bring to life the joys, sorrows, and adventures of the four March sisters—Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy—as they navigate the trials of growing up during the Civil War era. Directed by Katie Burlington, this production promises to deliver a fresh and engaging perspective on the familiar story, blending elements of drama, humor, and the bonds of family with the exquisite atmosphere of a immersive "in the round" intimate play production. Rate: $250 gas stipends will be provided to each actor. Additional info: Callbacks December 22, 2024 Performances February 13 - March 3, 2025 To be considered please provide (1) a printed current headshot, (2) a theater resume, and (3) a one-minute or less dramatic monologue. By request only. Callbacks will take place Sunday, December 22nd from 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm at the Grand Tea Room. Those selected for a callback will be notified after their audition. Rehearsals will be scheduled around actors' availability and take place 3 times a week (M/W evenings, + Sundays evenings as needed) in Escondido from 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm beginning the week of January 5, 2025. Josephine "Jo" March is the second oldest March sister. She is a writer and a tomboy. Jo is modeled after the author, Louisa May Alcott herself. Jo famously cuts and sells her hair to help her sick father. Though best friends with Laurie, she eventually marries Professor Bhaer. Age: Plays ages 15-25
Margaret "Meg" March is the oldest of the March sisters. In Book I, she hopes to conquer her vanity and do her work cheerfully. She marries the poor John Brooke. Age: Plays 16 to 26
The youngest, Amy is the pet of the family. She loves art and is quite vain, but learns to be elegant, kind, and generous. Always planning to marry rich, she considers but rejects Fred Vaughn and marries Laurie. Age: Plays 12 to 22
Elizabeth "Beth" is the third eldest March sister. She is a quiet, selfless, shy girl, who only wishes to be at home with her family. She loves music and plays the piano. Beth gets scarlet fever, and recovers, before eventually dying. Age: Plays 13 to 23
Theodore Lawrence, called Laurie by most or Teddy by Jo, is Mr. Laurence (The March's neighbor) nephew. He becomes a close friend and brother to the girls, particularly Jo. Without parents, he is largely influenced by the morals of the girls and their mother. After pining after Jo, but being refused, Laurie marries Amy. Age: Plays 16 - 26
