About the project: The award-winning musical adaptation of the classic Dickens novel springs to life with some of the most memorable characters and songs ever to grace the stage. Consider yourself at home with Lionel Bart's classic musical based on the Charles Dickens novel, Oliver Twist. The streets of Victorian England come to life as Oliver, a malnourished orphan in a workhouse, becomes the neglected apprentice of an undertaker. Oliver escapes to London and finds acceptance amongst a group of petty thieves and pickpockets led by the elderly Fagin. When Oliver is captured for a theft that he did not commit, the benevolent victim, Mr. Brownlow takes him in. Fearing the safety of his hideout, Fagin employs the sinister Bill Sikes and the sympathetic Nancy to kidnap him back, threatening Oliver’s chances of discovering the true love of a family. Oliver! is a musical theatre masterpiece, perfectly showcasing the talents of a large ensemble cast as they bring these classic characters and scores to life. Additional info: Have a song prepared and plan to read a part from the show. Please be aware that most rehearsals will be held on Tuesday, Thursday & Friday nights from 6:30 - 9:00. Note any conflicts you might have on your audition form. Directors require all participants to commit to 80% of rehearsals and 100% of tech week and show weekend. Parents/Guardians of children in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade are required to attend all their child’s rehearsals and sit with them. Children MUST be age 6 by the date of audition, in order to participate in a show. Siblings who can sit quietly with their parents are welcome to attend. Also be aware (especially for parents of young children) that the week prior to the show, "Tech Week" directors will hold rehearsals all day Sunday, and every weekday leading up to Friday night's show. Directors usually try to have 1 night off. These rehearsals usually begin around 5 and can go as late as 10 pm. It is a long and exhausting week, and all cast members are required to attend. Please print out and fill in the Audition Form attached in advance if possible. This will cut down on time on the day of auditions. Directors will also have forms available to fill out on the day of. Show dates: March 14, 15, & 16, 2025. All rehearsals and performances at Hubbardston Center School.
