Child auditions for the musical production of "Alice in Wonderland." Please find the details below. ONLY MD, VA AND LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. Additional info: Auditioners should be familiar with one of the listed Lewis Carroll poems attached. They do not need to memorize the poem but should be prepared to perform it for the audition. The director only needs to hear 1-2 minutes of the poem. Some of the poems are longer, so please prepare only a section of the poem to stay in the 1-2 minute time frame. The director is looking for a grasp of the language and your storytelling skills. Actors should be comfortable with their selected pieces and should not do a cold reading at the audition. Please wear attire appropriate for movement. Dance shoes, character shoes, and sneakers are acceptable, but NO open-toed shoes, flip-flops, crocs, or bare feet are allowed. If cast, it is important that you are available for rehearsals and performances. Please take note of the following important dates: Important Dates: If you are cast in the play, you must not miss any days during tech week or performances. Rehearsals: - Nov 10th (Tues/Thurs/Sun) - Fall Break: Nov 25th-29th - Winter Break: Dec 23-Jan 1st Rehearsal times: - Tuesdays and Thursdays: 7-9 PM - Sundays: 1-5 PM Tech Week: - Feb 2nd (Sunday) - Feb 6th (Thursday) Performances: - Feb 7 - 23rd (President's Day: Feb 19) - Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays School Performance: - Feb 13, 2025, 9:30 AM Please be prepared to volunteer. A spunky girl who enjoys adventures and is on a journey of self- discovery. Should be charming to the audience, very inquisitive and be able to command the stage. Preferred British dialect. Dialect coaching will be a part of rehearsal, not a deciding factor in casting.

Cheshire CatBoth genders8-18 y.o.All ethnicities

Mysterious cat that interacts with the audience and the other characters of Wonderland. Serves as a narrator of sorts. Needs to be able to speak clearly and be a good storyteller. Charismatic actor who can play mischievous and mysterious to both Alice and the audience.

White RabbitBoth genders8-18 y.o.All ethnicities

An energetic, worrisome character that hardly ever stops moving and a herald for the Queen of Hearts. An actor that can continuously exude a lot of energy and rapid-fire change of focus. Moves as efficiently and quickly as the second hand on a clock.

Known for being abrupt, impolite, overly inquisitive, and contradictory. Short tempered and can become angry if someone doesn't understand the hints given. However, they can also be calm and collected. Think of a wise old professor.

Delivers an invitation to the Duchess from the Queen of Hearts. Not impressed with Alice and speaks in riddles.

Works for the Duchess, is addicted to pepper and throws crockery and kitchen utensils over their shoulder with no concern for those who might be hit. Not happy, worn down and impolite to all who talk to them. The definition of a cranky and disheveled servant.

A pretty but stern woman who carries around a whining baby which we later discover is not a baby but a pig. Duchess seems nearly as unpleasant as the Queen herself and constantly speaks in morals to everyone including Alice. The Duchess is the owner of the Cheshire Cat in the original story but is not referenced in this retelling.

he Mad Hatter's chummy sidekick and enjoys a good party. Just slightly more rational than the Mad Hatter, the March Hare lets the frenetic Hatter lead the way, this is a happy fun character who enjoys playing.

The small, furry rodent who is known for being extremely sleepy and often napping. They complete the trio of the Mad Tea Party. This character will be played by a younger/smaller actor.

A set of twins that take particular delight in reciting poems and songs. They're playful and jolly, which can make them seem a little annoying. They enjoy company and will always insist in a little game. Actors do not need to be identical to play these roles!

The tyrannical ruler of Wonderland, and is known for her cruelty, short temper, and obsession with beheadings. She is quick to sentence people to death for even minor offenses, and her most famous line is "Off with their heads!" She is a force of fear who dominates the King of Hearts, and is more concerned with absolute rule and execution than logic or nonsense. However, her unchecked power also makes her act like a child, and there is humor in her villainy. Should be able to command the space

King of HeartsMale8-18 y.o.All ethnicities

Is the husband of the Queen of Hearts and is the highest monarch in Wonderland. The King quietly pardons many of the subjects the Queen has ordered to be beheaded when the Queen is not looking. However he is not perfect and will sentence people of Wonderland without evidence. He lacks reason and fairness in his governing duties. Physically opposite from the Queen.
