(G4 – A2) – the insecure, naïve, put-upon, florist’s clerk hero. A sweet and well-meaning man.
(D5 – G#3) – The bleached blonde secret love of Seymour’s life. Audrey works in the flower shop with feelings of low self-worth, yet full of dreams of what might be. She’s sweet and vulnerable.
(G4 – G2) – A handsome dentist with a black leather jacket and sadistic tendencies. He is dating Audrey. This role requires a versatile actor who also portrays eight other characters including: A Voice not unlike God’s, Skid Row wino, flower shop customer, radio announcer, Mr. Bernstein, Mrs. Luce, Skip Snip, and Patrick Martin.
(F4 – G2) – Long-suffering owner of the failing Skid Row flower shop where most of the story takes place and a surrogate father to Seymour.
(G4 – G2) – Seeking an actor with a resonant voice who, in concert with the puppeteers, can bring Audrey Two – the blood-seeking plant - to life. To quote the script, “his voice is a cross between Otis Redding, Barry White, and Wolfman Jack – a street-smart, funky, and conniving villain.” Aside from a brief onstage appearance as a Skid Row wino, this actor will mostly use an off-stage microphone.
Audrey Two is the name Seymour gives to the exotic, blood-hungry plant at the heart of the terror in Little Shop of Horrors. There are four versions of the plant, from the small innocuous one that Seymour first shows to Mr. Mushnik to larger ones capable of eating body parts and devouring people. Seymour manipulates version 2, but the others are operated by puppeteers who work in confined spaces and coordinate the movement of the plant with the performer providing Audrey Two’s voice.
