Quincy is a bottled spur of lightning, channeled down into a well mannered, presentational focus that he gets from his upbringing with Ella. His devotion to his mother and his academics is contrasted with a pining excitement to serve some form of rebellion. His mother’s devotion to the church and rigid work schedule give small interaction windows with kids Quincy’s age, and his search for playmates in the older age range is often diminished, save for Chester.
