Audition for "Chicago" The Musical. Age ranges are flexible, but all auditioners must be 16+. Please see the details below. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. About the project: Chicago is a 1975 American musical with music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb, and a book by Ebb and Bob Fosse. Set in Chicago in the Jazz Age, the musical is based on a 1926 play of the same title by playwright and one-time reporter Maurine Dallas Watkins about actual criminals and crimes on which she reported. The story is a satire on corruption in the administration of criminal justice (and the role the media plays in that corruption) and the concept of the "celebrity criminal.” Rate: This is a non-paying, volunteer, community theatre production. Additional info: Those under 18 will require parental consent to audition. Strong dance skills are a must! Additional skills such as gymnastics, unicycle riding, and juggling are a plus. Roxie’s unsuspecting husband. No dancing required
(Low Alto): Matron of the Cook County Jail, who wheels and deals “on behalf of” her girl. Minimal movement required
(Alto): Another murderess. Sensual, flashy. Strong dancer Accused of killing her lover and her sister (she caught them in the act of doing number 17, the spread eagle).
(Baritone): The flashy, wheeler-dealer lawyer who represents the murderesses. Minimal movement.
(Contra-Tenor) : A goody-goody gossip columnist. Written for a counter tenor in drag. Minimal movement.
(speaking role) Roxie’s murdered lover. Will double in the chorus, strong dancing.
